My Superman!!
Thursday, July 22, 2010

Yesterday Ry and I both had long days at work. I come trudging in the door around 5 and Ryan gets in about 3 1/2 hours later. Boo. On this particular day there was nothing, and I mean NOTHING that I wanted to do. I couldn't get myself to get up and start laundry or start dinner and I didn't even want to LOOK at my kitchen!! Then of course I end up sitting around feeling lazy and wishing I could get up and make myself busy but I just couldn't get the energy which makes me feel worse. Definitely wasn't happening...

I'm thinking Ry has some GREAT Husband Super Power that I don't know about because I didn't say ONE WORD to him and he walks in the door with a big bouquet of my FAVORITE flowers and pops in a frozen pizza and a movie.  I'm feeling very VERY grateful for such a wonderful husband! Jealous?? I guess I shouldn't mention the fact that he did all this without a single complaint AND proceeded to make me sit on the couch, grabbed me a blanket and rub my feet so I could be comfortable.

AND...... He did the dishes and the laundry for me this morning while I was off at work. MY HERO!!! I really couldn't ask for more than that  :)

Family Reunion
Friday, July 16, 2010

Last weekend was epic.  It all started with a 12 hour drive to central Idaho via I90 and Montana.  We found ourselves in remote central Idaho and the mighty Salmon River.  My uncle Garth knows some people who own a lodge on the river and Garth has been a floating the River for nearly 50 years.  We were coming from all over the place to enjoy a little bit of family time enjoying the outdoors and doing a little bit of white water rafting.

One of the best parts was the fact that Jacee's sisters were able to join us.  Jacee only gets to see her family about twice a year because they live in American Fork Utah.  Needless to say, we were all super excited to have them join us.

The river section we floated was on the main Salmon.  We would take the boats 10 miles up river and float back to the lodge.  There were 4 sets of rapids and plenty of calm areas for swimming.  The rapids were probably a Class 2, nothing too big but plenty of fun for people of all ages and experience.  Jacee and I were lucky enough to float the 10 mile trip 3 times.

The weather was warm.  The scenery was gorgeous.  The people we wonderful.  It was just the vacation we needed.

FIRE!
Monday, July 05, 2010

Last friday, July 2nd, I was working a 24 hour shift at the fire station.  Right before I reported for my shift, the guys went on two calls, one of which included a fire. Needless to say I wasn't expecting much action for the rest of the shift.  Up until about 5pm it was a pretty sleepy day, then we got an aid call for a woman who had a steam burn on her arm.  We responded with ease, due to my skillful driving.  Upon our arrival the lady was doing really well.  We checked her out, took vitals, examined the burn and decided she needed to go to the ER to get it checked out.

Right at that moment our pagers start going off like crazy.  We look down and it says 'Structure Fire'.  This is what we live for!  We asked the lady if she would like us to take her to the hospital.  Just so you know, we asked the lady like 10 times if she wanted us to take her.  We were not going to give her crappy service just because we wanted to go play.  Each time we asked she said she would take herself it.  Music to our ears!

The fire was about 5 mins away from our location so we started to head over.  Once we got there we were instructed to start what is called Rehab.  It is where we check the fire fighters who had been working to make sure they get enough fluids and that their pulse rates remain low enough.  After about 5-10 mins of doing that our Chief told the A66 guys to go back to the station because we were going to have some people coming for shift change and we also needed to get the Aid car back in service in order to be available for the citizens of Duvall.  It was at this moment I heard the magic words. 'Go suit up Smallwood'.

Packed up I headed to the on scene Lt. to get my first task.  I started by tearing apart a wall looking for fire extention and hot coals/embers.  There was still quite a bit of smoke (which means smoldering fire) so the hose line started to spray water again.  This ment our wall tearing duties were put on hold.  I went and joined the hose team.  The nozzelman turned and asked me if I wanted to get in and spray some water.  HELL YES I DO!

There I am, under the partially collapsed roof of a double wide trailer being a fireman!  I loved every second of it.  Breaking crap apart, spraying water on fire, it is a shame that my excitement comes at the price of someone elses missery.  All in all, no one was hurt.  This is always the best outcome.
